The wines of Chateau Maris are imported by the third generation of the Indelicato family. Minus the first syllable of the their name, the Delicato Family Vineyards (DFV) are major California producers of popular priced wines like Gnarly Head Old Vine Zinfandel - made from the grapes of 80 year old free standing vines. Unlike modern rows of trellised vines - these vines resemble bushes with twisted old trunks and branches. Gnarly. Although a different varietal than the old growth vines that Robert Eden found and nutured at Chateau Maris, these gnarly old California vines also produce wines with earthy, concentrated flavors.

In Lodi, California or Minervois La Liviniere, it is the respect for the land and vines that produces great wines, whether you follow the teachings of Rudolph Steiner or Grandfather Indelicato - who on some higher spiritual plane may be wishing his grandchildren had shown as much respect for the spelling of his name.
